Testimonies of what used to be presents a group of works that reveal different modes of records. From the evocation of myths and legends in J. Pfaffen’s sculptures to the tension between technology and nature in F. Gutiérrez’s installation, or the memories of lively places in M. Montalvo 's piece.
Artists, in their subjective and particular vision of experiences, conserve that minute in which the world is passing. They create documents that last as a register and reflect the image of a moment. […]
The notion of recording, meant as a necessity for conservation and condensation of time is a topic that comes within 21 s t century’s reflections. In our times, it is common that we want to register everything, to account for different phenomena of contemporary times. As Boris Groys states: “Our time is interested, mostly, in itself.” The massiveness of Gioffre’s pictures invites us to enter this contemporaneity and reflect, once again, on our own times.
